Covid-19 hits Albay solon

By Rhaydz B. Barcia

Albay 3rd District Rep. Fernando “Didi” Cabredo was infected with Covid-19 and is confined on Tuesday, Aug. 31, at a private hospital in Legazpi City.

Cabredo, a first term congressman, who works for the upliftment of farmers and rural folk, said that he underwent a swab test in Sorsogon province for travel purposes in Manila.

“I am supposed to go to Manila this Tuesday. To avoid any hassle on our trip, I opted to undergo the RT-PCR test to be sure and so as my driver. When the result is released, I’m tested positive of Covid-19 but my driver is negative,” Cabredo said in a phone interview.

“My wife and my son, including our kasambahay, were positive in the antigen test except my daughter. But tomorrow they will be undergoing a swab test,” the lawmaker said.

When asked if he was already vaccinated, Cabredo said that he had completed his two doses of the Sinovac vaccine in June, same with the members his family.

“I am saddened to inform you all that I tested positive for Covid-19 with mild symptoms,” Cabredo said in his Facebook page.

“I’m disclosing this to everyone, particularly those who have been in close contact with me, for safety precautions and to prevent further transmission of the virus. Stay safe and healthy,“ he said.

Cabredo said that he decided to reveal his Covid-19 infection for the information of his constituents and to facilitate contact tracing of his close contacts.

“I’m confined now at UST hospital with two choices, to check my phone and look at the window. At least I have the view of Mayon Volcano,” he said.

Cabredo’s family including their kasambahay tested positive with Covid-19 despite being fully vaccinated with Sinovac vaccine.

He urged the public to follow and observe health protocols to prevent the spread of the virus.

Cabredo said his driver and two councilors he met recently are in good condition and all are negative of Covid-19.
