DA gives livelihood training to Balik Probinsya beneficiaries

Over 20 beneficiaries of Balik Probinsya, Bagong Pag-Asa Program (BP2) from Camarines Sur participated in the Training on Poultry Production and Urban Gardening Management held in a hotel in Nabua town recently.

The activity was initiated by the BP2 program of the Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office 5 (DA RFO 5) to capacitate and increase the knowledge of the beneficiaries in crop production and poultry management. The BP2 program provides agricultural start-up kits for the “gulayan” and poultry projects to its beneficiaries coming from the urbanized areas of NCR who opted to go back to the provinces in the Bicol region.

Dr. Leopoldo “Jun” V. Ledesma, Jr. of the Integrated Laboratories Division of DA RFO 5 discussed the Avian Influenza or Bird Flu, a viral infection found in domestic poultry and a wide range of other birds. On the other hand, Emilia R. Nolasco, technical staff of the Livestock Program, explained the current industry situation of poultry production in the country and the proper management practices for chickens.

Rosita De Lumen, In-charge of the DA RFO 5 Organic Research and Development Center, shared her expertise in urban agriculture and diversified farming.

The participants received garden tools and assorted vegetable seeds to help them start practicing what they learned in the training. This training will continue to roll out in different provinces and municipalities with a more number of BP2 beneficiaries in the coming months. (Ma. Edelyn F. Bongalos-BP2 Program)
