DA invites Bicolano farmers to join “pinaka” contest 2021

LEGAZPI CITY --- The Department of Agriculture (DA) regional office in Bicol is inviting all fruit and vegetable growers in the six provinces to join the “Pinaka” Contest 2021.


A post shared on the DA’s official page said the contest is part of the celebration of the Farmers’ and Fisher folk’s Month this May.


“Farmers can join their “pinaka-mahabang”(longest) Sitaw, Ampalaya, Upo at Talong.”Pinaka-mabigat” (heaviest) Langka, Kalabasa, Papaya, Camote and Saging (saba). “Pinaka-malaking” (biggest) Cacao, Pili, Pakwan, and Melon,” the advisory said.


Also included are “pinaka-malaking” (biggest) fresh leaves of gabi and malunggay and lastly “pinaka-kakaibang” (unique) indigenous crop.


According to DA, only one entry per farmer can be submitted and submission of entry will be on May 14, 2021, from 9:00 AM to 12:00NN.


Entries will be judge on the same day from 1:30 PM to 3:00 PM simultaneously via Facebook Live.


“The decision of the judges is final and non-irrevocable; winners may claim their prizes at the respective ROs in their area per advisory.


Grand winner per commodity will receive garden tools (1 set), garden hose (1 roll), plant growth enhancer (5 packs), foliar fertilizer (1 liter), and assorted vegetable seed. While 10 consolation prizes per commodity will receive assorted vegetables (20 packets).


Entries per province will be received on May 14 at Albay Research Development Center, Cabangan, Camalig Albay, Camarines Norte Lowland Rainfed Research Station, Calasgasan, Daet, Camarines Norte, Department of Agriculture regional field office V, San Agustin, Pili Camarines Sur.


Masbate Breeding Station, Asid Masbate City, Masbate, Sorsogon Dairy Production and Technology Center, Cabid-an, Sorsogon City, Sorsogon, and Catanduanes Hilly Upland Development Station, Casoocan, Virac, Catanduanes.
