DepEd V and UNC Signed MOA on Founder’s Day
The Founder’s Day celebration on July 11 - the historic commemoration of the 131st birth anniversary of Dr. Jaime Hernandez, Sr., was made even sweeter at the summit of the University’s great, grand, and glorious Diamond Jubilee this 2023.
The University of Nueva Caceres, the first University in Bicol, is primed to be a leading Outcome-Based Education (OBE) Provider in Bicol, an epicenter of institutional research in the Region, a trailblazer in national and global linkages, and home of programs recognized locally and internationally, guaranteeing to make students future-ready. As UNC continues to expand opportunities for all, on this special occasion of our Founder’s Day, we leaped forward, making learning available to more, because at UNC, everybody makes it. With the Department of Education by our side, UNC continues the legacy of faith, the culture of unity, the tradition of excellence, and the history of victory - for the greater good and God’s glory.
Hand-in-Hand with High Hopes
UNC hosted a luncheon fellowship and the signing of the Memorandum of Agreement with the Department of Education Regional Office V, headed by the DepEd Regional Director Gilbert T. Sadsad, CESO III, joined by Ms. Sancha M. Nacion, Chief Education Supervisor, and Dr. Joe Bren Consuelo, Education Program Supervisor, both from the Human Resource Development Division, DepEd Regional Office V.
Present in the significant partnership event were UNC’s Administration and Leadership Team, led by Prof. Divinagracia L. David, Assistant Vice President for Human Resources and OIC - Office of the President, the college deans, assistant deans, and principals. UNC Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Romeo M. Sumayo Jr., gave the welcome and warmth, the UNCean way. The Ceremonial Signing of the DepEd V and UNC Memorandum of Agreement was organized by Prof. Michel P. Basister, Assistant Dean of UNC School of Graduate Studies

As the UNC Community commemorates the 131st birth anniversary of UNC’s distinguished Forerunner, Founding Father, and First President - Dr. Jaime Hernandez Sr., in one accord, we carry out his vision of UNC as the Bicolano learners’ Best Bet to be multi-qualified learners - future-ready, work-ready, and life-ready.
The Department of Education Regional Office V, represented by Regional Director Gilbert T. Sadsad, CESO III and the University of Nueva Caceres represented by Prof. Divinagracia L. David, the OIC of the Office of the President and Dr. Romeo M. Sumayo Jr., Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of UNC School of Graduate Studies, signed the Memorandum of Agreement, which entails: Upskilling and upgrading the academic qualifications of faculty and professionals in the Department of Education, through the UNC School of Graduate Studies – Center for Adult and Lifelong Learning; Delivery of Online Continuing Professional Education Programs through the partnership of the Department of Education and UNC-Coursera Scholarship Program; and Recognition of the Coursera certificates earned by Department of Education faculty recipients.
Commemoration Through Collaboration
75 years ago, Dr. Jaime Hernandez Sr., an accomplished educator, top-notch lawyer, decorated statesman, and exceptional Bicolano visionary founded the University of Nueva Caceres, his mighty gift to Bicol. As we meaningfully and memorably celebrated the Founder’s life, love, leadership, and legacy, we were most honored and delighted to have with us an outstanding educator and a distinguished leader in the academe, no less than the Regional Director of the Department of Education Regional Office V, Dir. Gilbert T. Sadsad. Through these synergistic collaborations, the Founder’s legacy lives on. In honor of our Founder, the University of Nueva Caceres will continue to inspire and influence the educational environment, the leadership landscape, and the cultural climate of our beloved Bicolandia.
