Divinagracia sisters slay suspect found dead

CABUSAO, Camarines Sur --- Police authorities said that the body discovered along the shores of Barangay Castillo in Cabusao, Camarines Sur on Tuesday, December 9, is believed to be Marfe Hufancia, 35, the primary suspect in the slay case of the Divinagracia sisters in Naga City.
Claudette Divinagracia, 27, of Barangay Cotmo, San Fernando, was found dead with hack wounds early morning of Sunday, December 7, outside the perimeter walls of St. James Homes in Barangay Concepcion Pequeña, Naga City.
Hours later, her sister, Kiela, 25, a graduating agriculture student of the Central Bicol State University of Agriculture, was discovered stabbed to death inside Claudette’s dormitory in the Green Acres Subdivision, also in Barangay Concepcion Pequeña.
Police identified Marfe Hufancia of the same village in Naga as the primary suspect. Authorities said the motive appears to be passion-related, although the detailed narrative of the crime has not yet been disclosed.
Two days after the killings, a lifeless and decomposing male body was found ashore in Barangay Castillo, Cabusao. Marfe’s father, Mario Hufancia, rushed from Naga City to Dondon Atienza Funeral Homes in Libmanan to confirm whether the corpse was his son. He identified dentures and a couple’s ring on the body, which matched a ring found with Claudette’s remains, his alleged live-in partner.
Police Capt. Albert Joven, acting chief of Cabusao Police, said that while Marfe’s father is confident the body belongs to his son, DNA testing by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), scheduled for December 12, is necessary for official confirmation. The remains have not yet been released to the family pending the forensic examination.
An investigation into the suspect’s death is ongoing. Meanwhile, Marfe’s sister, “Lenlen” Hufancia, sought forgiveness from the Divinagracia family, saying, “We cannot really comprehend that my brother could do such things to his live-in partner, Claudette, and her sister.”
