DOH hails Albay as Bicol’s Best Health Program Initiator

The Department of Health – Center for Health Development Bicol has declared the province of Albay as Best Implementor of health programs and services in the Bicol region during the recent 11th Salud Bikolnon (SB) awarding ceremony held Jan. 13, Friday at The Marison Hotel, here.


The provincial government of Albay won the Green Achiever Award - Provincial Level, the highest award given by the DOH to LGUs with outstanding performance in the provision and expansion of health services gauged through the DOH-LGU scorecard for the year 2021. It also came with P200,000 cash prize.


“With the Green Achiever Award, we can say that they are also the best implementer of programs,” said Dr. Jannish Alcala – Arellano of the SB Technical Working Group Selection and Awards Committee.


The scorecard indicators, said Arellano, are program targets on Tuberculosis (TB), Household with Safe Water Source, Disaster Risk Reduction, Immunization, Nutrition, Epidemiology, and Philippine Package of Essential Non- Communicable Diseases.


The cities of Legazpi and Ligao and municipality of Malinao were also hailed as Green achievers for city and municipality levels respectively.


Aside from the recognition, Albay likewise received P300,000 as top performing province for the implementation of the Population Tuberculosis (TB) Testing Rate under the Race to End TB Awards, Deworming (Mass Drug Administration) and Measles Rubella-Tigdas (MR-Td) Campaign and Chikiting Ligtas Bakunation Days.


In his message, Albay Gov. Edcel Lagman said that improved and adequate healthcare services are among the top priority programs under his administration.


He also commended the contributions of the medical employees, partners and stakeholders of the provincial government for the said achievements.

Other honorees in the province of Albay are the local government unit (LGU) of Legazpi City as BIDA Solusyon Plus Special awardee and Chikiting Ligtas awardee alongside the municipality of Tiwi.


The local government unit of Manito was hailed as top performer for TB Preventive Treatment, best program implementer of the National Voluntary Blood Services Program and one of the five Best Performing Facilities for MR-Td and CBD together with the Rural Health Units of Camalig and Daraga.


The city government of Ligao was cited for Best Program Implementation on Healthy Lifestyle while Tabaco City Health Office got the citation for Best Mental Health Program Implementation on Community Based Rehabilitation Program.


The Philippine Information Agency – Albay and other regional media partners and advocates for health promotion were also honored.


After two years of postponement due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the DOH Bicol resumed the Salud Bikolnon Awards with the theme “Pagkaburunyog para sa Salud nin Kagabsan”, to gather all local health implementers and recognize their exemplary practices towards the realization of the national Universal Health Care initiative.
