DPWH puts safety devices on poles along highway

By Benilda A. Recebido

To ensure that the safety of motorists and pedestrians alike will not be compromised, Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Bicol Director Virgilio C. Eduarte has ordered the installation of safety devices on the 4,575 electric poles along the widened portion of Bicol’s national road network while waiting for the relocation.

In an interview, Eduarte said that the presence of these poles along our road will continue to endanger the lives of the motorists and the pedestrians.

Report from the National Electrification Administration (NEA) during its recent virtual meeting with DPWH said that only 1,162 poles or 20.25 percent of the 5,737 poles that obstructed the highway were already relocated.

“I would like to assure the public that all efforts are being done to finally relocate these electric poles. In the meantime, we have to initiate ways to deter further occurrences of accidents along our national highway,” Eduarte said.

During the DPWH Luzon Operations virtual meeting on recently, Usec. Rafael C. Yabut recognized the initiative done by Eduarte and told the rest of the DPWH regional directors to do the same. (PIAV/DPWH Bicol)
