CASTILLA, Sorsogon --- For many newly admitted beneficiaries of the government’s Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps), the assistance represents more than financial aid—it offers hope for a more stable future for their families.
Jory Levantino Abila, a construction worker from Barangay Monte Carmelo in Castilla, expressed gratitude after learning that his family was accepted into the program. With an irregular and limited income, Abila said providing for his family’s daily needs has long been a challenge.
He shared that the additional support from the government will help them buy food, send his children to school, and cover basic household expenses. For Abila, being included in 4Ps is a significant step toward easing their struggles and improving their family’s living conditions.

Another new beneficiary, Sherie Anne Caballa Lleva, said the program came as a much-needed relief as she raises her two young children on her own. Relying mainly on laundry work for income, Lleva said making ends meet has often been difficult because of the uncertain nature of her earnings.
She described her inclusion in the 4Ps program as an answered prayer, saying the assistance will help provide for her children’s daily needs and support their education and overall well-being.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) recently rolled out the inclusion of new beneficiaries in Castilla as part of the government’s continuing effort to strengthen social protection programs under the administration of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
According to DSWD Secretary Rex Gatchalian, around 700 new households in Sorsogon have recently been admitted into the program, with registration still ongoing to reach more families needing support.
While welcoming new beneficiaries, Gatchalian also emphasized that the 4Ps program is designed to create long-term positive change in the lives of families. Beneficiaries are required to keep their children in school, access regular health services, and attend family development sessions that promote responsible parenting and stronger family relationships.
Officials said these conditions are intended not only to provide immediate assistance but also to help families become healthier, more financially stable, and eventually self-sufficient.
Gatchalian noted that many Filipino families have already improved their lives through the program, with around 1.4 million households graduating from 4Ps since 2022 after achieving better living conditions.
For beneficiaries like Abila and Lleva, however, the program marks the beginning of a new opportunity—one that gives them hope of building a more secure future for their children. (PIA Bicol)
