Empowering women and children: JCI Naga, JCI Nagueña launch successful panty drive

This month of March, celebrated as Women’s Month, JCI Naga and JCI Nagueña have launched the Panty Drive, a campaign aimed at empowering children and their parents to spot and say no to different forms of abuse.

The campaign has been a huge success in its two-leg run last March 18 and 25, 2023, held in Bonot, Calabanga, and Tagongtong, Goa, with over hundreds of children and their parents in attendance.

One of the highlights of the activity was the talks delivered by the Know Your Rights Philippines, an organization that promotes legal education. They discussed topics such as the Anti-Violence Against Women Act (VAWC) and Safe Spaces Act.

Ms. Mary Grace Peralta delivered her informative talk to children about the three important steps to take when they feel someone touched them. She left the kids with an inspiring song and dance number led by Jhun Favorito, Christian Tan, and Nicol De Jesus, with a message saying kids are important and nothing less.

Camille Fornoles, project head, thanks everyone who made the endeavor a resounding success, saying that without the support of all the donors, supporters, and volunteers, the noble activity will not be a success.

Moreover, John Jacob Llaguno, President of JCI Naga, said in his speech that JCI Naga and JCI Nagueña are proud to have conducted the Panty Drive and are thankful to the people who supported it.

Lastly, Ruth Dy-Ng, president of JCI Nagueña said that they are looking forward to launching more activities like this in the future and will continue to fight for the rights of women and children.

The success of this event was achieved due to the collaborative efforts of the Punong Barangay of Bonot, Calabanga, Elmer Tanael, Police officer Gemma Caceres of Calabanga Police Station, the Municipal Police Station of Goa headed by Police Major Rodolfo Borromeo, with Police Weng Requinta of Goa Municipal Police Women’s Desk, and the entire Camarines Sur Philippine National Police (PNP). Through their combined efforts, the event was conducted smoothly and was able to promote the rights and welfare of women and children in the community as planned.

The Panty Drive is part of JCI Naga and JCI Nagueña’s effort to promote awareness and protection of women’s and children’s rights. It is also a reminder to all that they are worthy and don’t have to put up with abuses of any kind.
