LEGAZPI CITY --- A new PHP54.4-million building for the Philippine Army’s 31st Infantry Battalion under the 9th Infantry Division (9ID) is expected to boost the morale and improve the capability of the troops based in Daraga, Albay.
During the facility’s inauguration and blessing over the weekend, House of Representatives Committee on Appropriations chair, Ako Bicol Party-list Rep. Elizaldy Co said the facility symbolizes the collective effort of the government and the people to empower the soldiers.
“We are not just celebrating a new facility, but we are recognizing the strong partnership between the Philippine Army, the government, and the communities as they continue their mission to safeguard peace and security in our region,” he said.
Co thanked the soldiers for their dedication, courage, and relentless fight against insurgency.
“Your commitment to protecting our people and communities is truly inspiring,” he said.
Co also recognized the strong leadership of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and House Speaker Martin Romualdez in implementing initiatives to enhance the welfare of the Philippine Army.
“This administration continues to give priority to strengthening our Army and improving your condition. To our soldiers, your sacrifices do not go unnoticed, your courage and dedication to our civilians and public servants,” he added.
Maj. Gen. Noe Alberto Peñafiel, commander of the 9ID, expressed gratitude to the House of Representatives for its continued support for the welfare of soldiers.
“This two-story building stands more than a command center but also represents a significant investment to our national defense. This building is a modern functional and secure space from which operations can be planned, coordinated, and executed with greater efficiency and effectiveness,” he said.
Peñafiel said the camp development with three facilities is part of 22 projects for the 9ID that will boost the morale and capability of soldiers in combating insurgency in the Bicol region. (PNA)
