LEGAZPI CITY --- The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) 5 (Bicol) has extended aid to the family of radio broadcaster Noel Samar, who was killed by a still unidentified gunman in Guinobatan, Albay earlier this week.

Social workers visited his family to offer support by providing psychosocial interventions to help them cope with the tragic loss of a loved one, funeral expenses, and financial support for burial arrangements.

In a statement, DSWD-5 Director Norman Laurio joined the public in calling for justice and an end to the harassment and killing of media members.

“I personally and strongly condemn all forms of harassment and violence against members of the media. Having been part of the media myself, I know that journalists play a vital role in upholding democracy, transparency, and the public’s right to information. I stand with the public in calling for an end to this violence,” he said.

He also assured the family of continued financial and psychosocial services. (PNA)
