LEGAZPI CITY --- The Department of Social Welfare and Development in Bicol (DSWD-5), through its Disaster Response Management Division (DRMD), delivered essential assistance to families affected by fires in various areas of the Bicol provinces over the weekend.
In a report on Monday, DSWD-Bicol said five families affected by separate fire incidents in Iriga City, Camarines Sur, and Legazpi City, Albay, received food packs and non-food items valued at PHP60,000.
The fires displaced four families in Iriga City and one family in Legazpi City, destroying their homes and belongings.
DSWD-Bicol extended aid to the affected families currently staying at the barangay multi-purpose hall.
Each family received two family food packs and essential non-food items such as hygiene, family, kitchen and sleeping kits, “malong” blankets, collapsible water containers, tarpaulin rolls, and six liters of bottled water.
Aside from the immediate assistance, each affected family will receive PHP10,000 in financial aid through the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) program.
Meanwhile, DSWD-5 distributed over PHP4.4 million worth of family food packs to 6,161 fisherfolk from 21 barangays in Garchitorena, Camarines Sur that were affected by a series of weather disturbances last year.
The food packs aim to meet the immediate nutritional needs of families as they work to recover from the disasters that disrupted their livelihoods. (PNA)
