LEGAZPI CITY --- The Department of Social Welfare and Development in Bicol (DSWD-5) provided immediate aid to eight families affected by fires in different areas of Camarines Sur over the weekend.
In a report, Claudio Villareal Jr., DSWD-5 Disaster Response Management Division (DRMD) chief, told the Philippine News Agency each family received two food packs and non-food items as initial assistance worth a total of PHP67,000.
Eight houses were completely destroyed in separate fire incidents in Sagñay, Tigaon, Goa, Tinambac, Baao and Naga City last week.
Villareal said: “The affected families have been endorsed for PHP10,000 financial aid through the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) program. They are also being assessed and validated for the Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) assistance.”
He said the affected families are temporarily staying with their relatives or in makeshift shelters they have built themselves.
Each family food pack contains six kilograms of rice, 10 canned goods, five sachets of coffee and five sachets of cereal drinks, and sufficient to sustain a family of five for two days.
Non-food relief items include sleeping kits, family kits, hygiene kits, kitchen kits and 10-meter laminated sacks.
Villareal said DSWD-Bicol is committed to ensuring efficient and effective delivery of services and programs to families affected by disasters. (PNA)
