The sale and use of firecrackers and other types of pyrotechnics including fireworks display in public places are prohibited in Bicol, the Regional Peace and Order Council (RPOC) said on Tuesday, Dec. 29.
Albay Governor Al Francis Bichara has issued on Tuesday a RPOC resolution banning firecrackers and pyrotechnic devices in all towns, cities in the six Bicol provinces beginning Dec. 28 until further notice.
The ban is aimed to prevent injuries, death due to firecrackers as well as a measure to curb the spread of the Covid-19 due to mass gathering during the sale, use, and community fireworks display.
Community fireworks display would not be allowed, because people would gather in the designated fireworks display zone, thus violating health protocols on mass gathering.
The resolution directed all units of the Philippine National Police (PNP) in the region to strictly enforce the firecracker ban.
