THE regional office of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) in Bicol extended a Christmas giveaway to around 57 fisherfolk in the form of fuel subsidy cash cards in a simple ceremony held on December 14, this year, at the town’s Municipal lobby in Barangay Binalay in the municipality of Tinambac, Camarines Sur.
The undertaking was conducted in coordination with the local government unit of Tinambac. In the data provided by the LGU’s Fisheries and Coastal Management Office, each of the beneficiaries, who are registered fisherfolk, has received a cash fuel subsidy amounting to P3,000 from BFAR.
In the LGU’s Facebook page, Tinambac Mayor Atty. Ruel Brioso Tuy said that validation is underway for the remaining 122 applicants.
BFAR personnel process the provision of the fuel cash cards to fishermen in Tinambac.
“We are just waiting for the validation to be completed, then we can include the remaining unregistered fisherfolk to the second batch of subsidy fuel cards beneficiaries,” Tuy added.
The town’s chief executive also thanked BFAR for the assistance, saying that it will help augment the financial need of the fishermen, especially these days that fuel prices continue to go up.
The LGU enjoined every Tinambaqueños, whose livelihood depends on fishing, to have themselves registered with the local government or BFAR to benefit from the government programs and services including the assistance being extended by the LGU and its partner agencies.
