Goa Community College officially launched

By Sonny Malate

Goa, Camarines Sur --- After satisfactorily hurdling stringent requirements set by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) in opening a local college, the Goa Community College was finally granted due approval in time for school year 2022- 2023.

A brainchild of Mayor Marcel S. Pan, the opening of this local school was initially conceptualized in 2019 with the support of the local legislative body and other stakeholders.

Initially, local funds provide for the budgetary requirements of this school. To supplement financial needs, outsourcing will be done.

The local chief executive had the best intent in his mind for opening an additional new school to accommodate students who will be inevitably left out with available slots in Partido State University, a major provider of free tertiary education in Partido Area due to the growing student population in the fourth district.

To gain community awareness on the emergence of the new local school, this was officially launched recently. In attendance during the event were key municipal officials led by Mayor Marcel S. Pan, school personnel and students. Gracing the activity as guests were 4th district Board member Eugene B. Fuentebella representing 4th District congressman Arnie B. Fuentebella and Galing Pook validation team members from Metro Manila.

Initially, this community college offers three 4-year courses, namely: Bachelor of Early Childhood Education (BECEd), Bachelor of Culture and the Arts (BCAEd) and Bachelor of Physical Education (BPEd). For its pioneer enrollees, more than 300 students were posted in the three courses offered.

This school charges no tuition fees. Miscellaneous fees are billed per student at a minimal rate of more than Six Hundred P600.00 only.

Dr. Nita V. Morallo, Interim College President, bared that by next year additional board, non-board and TESDA short courses will be opened for additional choices of courses among students.

Serving as initial school building is the renovated Goa Municipal Infirmary beside the Goa Sports Complex.

To address the demand for wider area for a school campus in the coming years, a 5-hectare lot was alloted by the local government unit for this school out of a bigger parcel of land in Barangay Tagongtong donated by a landed family in this municipality.
