A senior high school student in Sorsogon City committed suicide by hanging himself on a Narra tree due to poor internet signal resulting to depression.
Major Maria Luisa “Malu” Calubaquib, PNP regional spokesperson, said that Johnson (not his real name), 18 years old of Sorsogon City, ended his life on Dec. 11, 2020 at around 6:00 PM due to poor mobile data signal.
The student’s lifeless body was discovered at Barangay Bibincahan, East District, Sorsogon City and was reported to police headquarters at 7:30 PM.
Calubaquib said that based on the report of the Sorsogon City Police Office, Lorena (not her real name), the victim’s mother discovered the lifeless body of her son hanging on a Narra tree with nylon rope tied around his neck.
“They cut the rope and transported the victim’s lifeless body inside their house,” she said.
She said Lorena said that her son was pressured in his studies since the blended learning started.
The police official said that according to the mother of the victim, her son suffered depression due to his frustration over the poor mobile internet signal when the blended learning began.
“My son is placed under remedial learning in order to pass and re-enroll for the second semester. This cause my son so much frustration that led to depression,” the mother told police investigators.
