Great Expectancy

We write this column as the whole nation awaits with great expectancy concrete actions or steps on the government’s vaccination program. This feeling has assumed more urgency as nations all over the world scramble for the much awaited vaccine which is hoped to put a stop to the pandemic. It appears that more progressive countries have the advantage because of resources which enable them to purchase and administer the vaccine in their own countries faster. From discussions and interviews in both print and broadcast media, it appears that local government units and private entities are willing and ready to finance the purchase of the vaccine of their own choice. In view of this, there seems to be no problem in vaccine acquisition unless governmental red tape and unwarranted delays and/or restrictions would frustrate their goodwill and good intentions. Another issue that has to be resolved is the efficacy of the vaccine that the government plans to administer to the general population which has engendered some degree of doubt and hesitance on the part of the public.

On the proposed charter change, this writer believes that it is ill-timed. If we are successful in eradicating and controlling the pandemic there will be a corresponding economic recovery because industries will be active again, people can go back to work and hopefully, we will be on our way to recovery.
