INA visits BJMP Naga

By Myrna S. Bermudo

Dubbed as Pagsungko ni Ina, the image of Ina, Our Lady of Peñafrancia, was received by the Naga District Jail Male Dormitory inside the   Bureau  of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) in Naga City. Our Lady’s maternal presence gave comfort amid tears, assurance amid uncertainty and compassion in the midst of a  judgmental  society,  to  persons deprived of liberty (PDL).

At seven o’clock in the morning of May 22, the image of Ina was brought to BJMP Naga from Our Lady of Peñafrancia Basilica Minore and National Shrine. A Eucharistic celebration was held and was presided over by Fr. Zeno Ma. Sparks, FI, of the Franciscan Immaculate.

The image of Ina was first brought to the Naga District Jail Male Dormitory where a holy mass was celebrated at the chapel. After a moment of veneration, the image of Ina was brought to the Naga District Jail Female Dormitory  where the women PDLs prayed the perpetual  novena to Our Lady of Penafrancia. While singing the “Dalit” to Inâ, some shed tears. They also sang with gusto the hymn for Inâ, the Resuene Vibrante.

The Pagsungko was part of the celebration of Peñafrancia de Mayo and in preparation for the Centennial of the Canonical Coronation of Our Lady of Peñafrancia  on September 20, 2024.

Naga City District Jail-Male Dormitory Acting District Jail Warden JCINSP Rodolfo L. Verzosa, Jr., welcomed the Pagsungko ni Ina as part of the spiritual formation of the PDLs.
