Jobless man kills neighbor

A jobless man who killed his neighbor over a minor argument told Bicol Mail that he is ready to face the consequences of his action.


Eduardo Verdadero, 39, jobless, a native of Pasacao in Camarines Sur and a resident of Kalye Putol, Jacob Street in Barangay Bagumbayan Sur, Naga City, is the suspect behind the killing of Mark Anthony Taal, 33, single and a house helper in the same barangay.


The police said the suspect on Aug. 12 repeatedly whacked the victim in the head with a piece of coconut lumber. The victim was rushed to Bicol Medical Center. He subseqently died due to severe head injury.


The suspect, while detained at the Naga City Police Station 3, told Bicol Mail that he was under the influence of alcohol when the incident happened. He said the victim, who was cutting grasses with a bolo nagged him, which the fight between them.


He was armed with a bolo and I took a piece of coco lumber. The fight happened and I hit his head, he said.


Lt. Beverly Calajate, Police Station 3 chief, said suspect and the victim have an existing grudge against each other.


She said that based on their investigation, the two were once co-workers in a nearby establishment. The suspect was allegedly envious of the victim over work accomplishment.


Calajate said the suspect used a pedicab to flee the crime scene. He was caught by policemen in San Fernando town.
