Kusog Bicolandia: No to Naga politics in ‘25

By Rhaydz B. Barcia

LEGAZPI CITY --- While numerous local politicians in Bicol are announcing their intentions for the upcoming 2025 midterm polls, Noel De Luna, the founder of Kusog Bikolandia, has dispelled rumors of pursuing the mayoral post in Naga City.

De Luna, a dedicated political supporter of former Vice President Leni Robredo, who initiated the Bikoleni movement during the concluded presidential polls, said that he has no interest in entering Naga City politics, citing his busy involvement in both domestic and international business ventures.

Responding to speculations linking him to a potential mayoral candidacy in Naga City for the 2025 elections, De Luna issued a statement clarifying his current priorities. “I am writing to dispel rumors about my interest in entering Naga City’s political sphere. At this moment, my attention and commitments are focused on other equally important aspects of my life, exploring potential endeavors beyond local politics,” he said.

De Luna highlighted the demands of his international business ventures, emphasizing the need for considerable attention and commitment. Despite rumors and discussions within his family, he concluded to forgo any political plans at this time.

During De Luna’s 55th birthday celebration at Pepperland Hotel in Legazpi City on December 28, former VP Leni Robredo expressed gratitude to him for supporting her presidential bid and uniting Bicolanos through the Bikoleni movement.

Cong. Joey Sarte Salceda of Albay’s second district, along with other local politicians from Albay, urged De Luna to consider joining politics in Albay. Salceda suggested that Robredo’s statement could be seen as an endorsement for the 2025 polls, but De Luna clarified that he is no longer contemplating a political role and instead pledged to be actively involved in notable programs in Naga.

In a letter to Robredo, De Luna reiterated his commitment to being an engaged member of the city, dedicated to ensuring the well-being of the people. He expressed confidence that, at the opportune time, his dedication to public service and commitment to transparency, accountability, and good governance would prevail, aligning with Robredo's admirable values.

Kusog Bikolandia strongly supported Vice President Maria Leonor “Leni” Robredo’s presidential bid, earning praise from Robredo for unifying local candidates in Camarines Sur despite political differences. Robredo described it as a “new brand of politics” that they are promoting.

De Luna, a former mediaman turned businessman, founded Kusog Bikolandia as a “new breed of political party” in 2018. In the May 2022 congressional polls, he participated under the Pederalismo Ng Dugong Dakulang Samahan, a party affiliated with the administration of President Rodrigo Duterte.
