L1-Based MTB MLE to improve children’s learning

Language is crucial in children’s cognitive, emotional, and social development. It functions as a critical instrument for knowledge acquisition and communication. Giving children a solid foundation in their first language (L1) is essential while studying a second language. The idea of L1-Based MTB MLE (Mother Tongue-Based, Multilingual Education) is applicable in this situation. L1-Based MTB MLE facilitates children’s successful academic and personal development by highlighting the significance of native language competency in the overall learning process.

Cultural identity is preserved via L1-Based MTB MLE. When a child’s original language is respected and used in the classroom, they feel a sense of pride in their culture and a sense of belonging. By assisting kids in maintaining their cultural heritage, traditions, and values, this method fosters a more accepting and respectful society.

Strong native language proficiency has been linked to beneficial cognitive development, according to research. Children learn more effectively and retain new information when exposed to complicated concepts and ideas in their mother tongue. Their capacity to reason, solve problems, and exercise critical thought is improved due to this cognitive transfer.

Children who are exposed to L1-Based MTB MLE experience language transfer, in which their native language abilities and knowledge are used to aid in the acquisition of a second language. Thanks to this transfer, children are more likely to pick up new languages, which helps close the language gap. As a result, students get superior language proficiency in their L1 and the second language, enhancing their total communication skills.

Literacy abilities and native language proficiency are tightly related. Children gain good reading, writing, and comprehension skills by developing a solid foundation in their first language (L1). These abilities provide a solid foundation for studying new languages, Science, and Math.

Language is a tool for communication and self-expression. Children feel more comfortable expressing their thoughts, ideas, and feelings when they learn in their mother tongue. Their overall learning experience is favorably impacted by this enhanced self-confidence, which motivates students to actively engage in the learning process.

It is simpler for children to move to formal educational settings where the primary language of teaching is employed when they have a strong foundation in their home tongue. Children participating in L1-Based MTB MLE are more equipped to handle academic obstacles, promoting more significant engagement and academic success.

Understanding the importance of L1-Based MTB MLE is a step in developing an educational system that produces well-rounded, knowledgeable, and empowered people.
