Legazpi City village to hold service caravan, sell ‘BBM’ rice

LEGAZPI CITY --- Residents of Barangay 38 Gogon in Legazpi City will soon benefit from essential government services and affordable food through the “2026 Katalingkasan Fiesta Serbisyo Caravan.”

The event will take place at Kalayaan Park on June 11, 2026, as a prelude to the Independence Day celebrations.

The caravan will launch President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s “Benteng Bigas Meron (BBM) Na” program, allowing eligible residents, especially families earning minimum wage, to purchase rice for only P20 per kilogram, with each household able to buy up to 15 kilograms.

According to Barangay Kagawad Richilda Blanco-Atun, rice distribution will begin at 7 a.m. and will continue until supplies last.

“This program is designed to help our residents cope with the rising cost of daily essentials. It aims to provide immediate support to families facing difficulties with food expenses,” Blanco-Atun said.

The rice will be sourced from the National Food Authority (NFA) and distributed through Food Terminal Inc. (FTI), ensuring both high quality and efficient delivery to residents.

Residents like Roger Malate said they see this initiative as a significant help for their families.

“This is a big relief for us, especially with the ongoing rise in prices. We will save a lot with the BBM rice,” he said, speaking in Bicol dialect.

Another resident, Ana Alamil Manansala, expressed hope that such valuable programs will continue.

“The P20 a kilo rice is a huge help for us. I hope there will be more initiatives like this BBM rice in the future,” she shared.

The event will also feature “Kadiwa ng Pangulo sa Parke”, which will sell fresh agricultural products from local farmers, organized in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture.

The initiative supports local farmers while making fresh and affordable food accessible to residents.

Additionally, the caravan will bring together personnel from various government agencies, local offices, and community organizations to provide services such as health consultations, assistance with paperwork, job support, and social services.

The caravan builds on previous efforts from the barangay. In 2025, residents benefited from the Kadiwa ng Pangulo program, where rice was sold at P29 per kilo, demonstrating a commitment to making basic goods more accessible.

Beyond just food assistance, the caravan highlights the significance of collaboration among various agencies, local governments, and community members, Blanco-Atun said.

“This program, along with the BBM rice at P20 per kilo, truly aims to help poor families in the barangays. Thank you, PBBM,” she added.

Blanco-Atun initiated the event with full backing from Punong Barangay Tess Naz, the barangay council of Gogon, and the active participation of local officials and volunteers. (PIA Bicol)
