Legazpi PESO to open in SM

The first public employment services office (PESO) inside a mall in this city would starting serving job-seekers anytime next month.


Legazpi City PESO manager Diosdado Raneses said that they are now completing all the needed equipment and facilities for its full-swing operations after it was offered a new location inside a mall here free of rent.


“We will soon operate and accept clients in our PESO this August after we complete all the needed office equipment and facilities,” Raneses told Bicol Mail.


He also thanked the management of SM City Legazpi for giving them a free space that could accommodate big number of job applicants while complying the requirement health and safety protocols due to the prevailing Covid-19 pandemic.


Engineer John Jason Terrenal, SM Assistant Senior Vice-President, South Regions, together with Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) regional director for Bicol Ma. Zenaida Angara Campita and SM mall Manager Cindy S. Lilia had formally turned-over the Business One Stop Shop (BOSS) office of PESO Legazpi to Mayor Noel E. Rosal, Vice Mayor Bobby Cristobal and Raneses recently.


Rosal in an interview said the new PESO office located at the 3rd floor of the mall symbolizes the commitment of the city government by giving more opportunity to the job-seekers in a location that is easy to access.


“This new BOSS-PESO office is part of the private – public - partnership (PPP) scheme that can bring the government closer to the people and give them a convenient venue while they are looking for their job opportunities”, Rosal said.


He said the BOSS-PESO office is considered as a new landmark of Legazpi that will generate more employment, adding that the city government is already practicing online payment and assessment and the proper procedures of issuing business permits and real property tax collections as part of the implementation of “Ease of doing Business” and efficient delivery of government services.


“With our partners in business sector, we can combat and mitigate this prevailing pandemic in order for us to survive”, Rosal added.


Terrenal said that the PESO is very important in business sector as he noted that PESO plays a vital role in selecting the workforce of business organizations.


He announced that Legazpi is the first city government with PESO office inside the SM mall in the entire country as he also noted that SM is part of the business component of Legazpi and created more employment in the city and the nearby municipalities.


“We also gave donations to the city government for the constructions of some alternate roads that will ease the traffic in the downtown city of Legazpi”, Terrenal added.


He said that SM city cinema has offered to the city government as one of the venues for vaccination program of Legazpi.


The city government has issued a safety seal to the SM City Legazpi for observing the health and safety protocol inside the mall.


SM donated P5 million to the Legazpi City government.
