Local business leaders to elect new MNCCI officers

THE Metro Naga Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MNCCI) has made a public announcement regarding its eagerly awaited last quarter General Membership and Business Meeting, scheduled to take place on November 8, 2023. The event will be held at 2:00 in the afternoon at La Piazza Hall, located within the Avenue Plaza Hotel in Magsaysay Avenue.

This momentous gathering is set to bring together a wide spectrum of individuals from the local business community, uniting both regular and affiliate members who have actively championed MNCCI’s primary advocacy, known as “the voice of business,” since its establishment in 1988.

Key highlights of the meeting will encompass the pivotal discussions surrounding the prominent issues raised at the recently concluded Philippine Business Conference 2023. Furthermore, President Mario C. Villanueva is slated to deliver his report to provide insights into the chamber’s notable achievements and accolades achieved during his tenure.

Following the Business Meeting, the Committee on Election (Comelec) will take center stage to oversee the election of seven new members to the Board. This transition is essential to ensure continuity, as the terms of the current seven incumbent board members are set to conclude on December 31, 2023. According to the Chamber’s Constitution, as outlined in Article IX, Section 3, the governance and policy-making responsibilities of the Chamber lie with the Board of Directors, elected during the Annual General Membership Meeting in the last quarter of each year.

In this election cycle, Comelec will be led by past President Ferdinand “Don” Sia, along with two appointed members: past President Gilbert Albero and past Director Amalia Villafuerte.

For participation in the election, only regular and affiliate MNCCI members who have successfully updated their annual membership dues by October 31, 2023, are eligible to cast their votes.

Each member will be provided with a formal notice detailing the Rules of Conduct of the Election, alongside nomination forms, certificates of candidacy, and proxy forms. All qualified members in good standing have the opportunity to run as candidates and be nominated for board positions.

Proxy voting is also permitted for those unable to attend, provided they delegate their vote to another qualified member as a proxy. This process necessitates the completion and submission of pre-numbered proxy forms at least an hour before the ballot casting.

Upon the conclusion of ballot casting, the Comelec will promptly initiate the vote canvassing, subsequently declaring the final results.

This General Membership and Business Meeting, along with the subsequent election, promises to be a significant event for MNCCI, shaping the future of its leadership and strengthening its commitment to the local business community.
