Looking for a Pet?

Recently, I wanted to acquire a new friend for my two-year-old dog. My dog is a crossbreed of Doberman and Siberian Husky. He grew up just fine and handsome. He looks very much like a Doberman but with an advantage-- since he inherited the ears of a Siberian Husky, he need not get his ears cropped. Zee, is a large dog, and that may be an understatement. Whenever, I would take him for walks outside our residence, all people would exclaim, what a big dog!

Anyway, going back to the topic, I was able to get a new puppy when I went to Legazpi City. She is also a large breed according to the saleslady. However, she is a crossbreed too, so, until she is fully grown that is yet to be seen. She was born on May 4, 2023, and at three months she is looking beautiful.

To my chagrin, my brother told me that I could have gotten a dog like her for free. So I went to every pet shop in Naga City. There are not a lot and two pet shops closed their business. The only available puppy for sale is a Shih Tzu. That would not be good though because it is a small breed. There is a large breed dog that is coming, a Golden Retriever, but the price is quite hefty. Incidentally, there were three puppies next door in a cage, they are a mixed-breed of Dachshund and Pomeranian, the price is reasonable at five thousand. But still, they are a small breed of dogs.

Unlike in Metro Manila where there are pet districts that have countless dogs for sale, here in Naga, you can count them with just one hand. So, the style for buying a dog in pet shops would be to persistently visit them and seize the opportunity. And, you have to do a lot of waiting.

There is a much better way though, and that would be getting a dog online. I was able to do it and you may like to also try your luck! I joined like-minded people’s groups on Social Media. There are many Pet Groups on Facebook. Find one that is nearest to your area.

First, you may like to adopt a dog. There are members who have puppies up for adoption. The local city pound has grown dogs also up for adoption. You have to go to their office with a chain and a collar. There is a plus because the dogs are already vaccinated with anti-rabies. They have a rule that a dog should not be caged for 24 hours. Playtime or exercise is a requirement for a happy dog. You may also visit the Facebook Page of Heart of Paws Naga. It is an animal welfare group. They rescue, rehabilitate, and re-home impounded, and, neglected animals.

Second, you may like to trade something with a dog or puppy you like. For example, you have many dogs of a certain breed already like a German Shepherd for a Labrador: that would be possible. Or, a dog cage, a gadget like a cellphone, a sack of dog food, etc. You may even negotiate-- if you own a female dog --after mating, give a number of puppies to the Sire’s owner or vice-versa.

Third, you may like to buy a puppy for a discounted price. Since you are buying directly from dog owners or dog breeders, the prices are marked down. My advice would be negotiate, negotiate, and, negotiate.

You may be wondering if it is worth a try to find a dog online. Well, for one the variety is there most definitely. Aside from Aspins, (basing from actual photos of breeds I had seen) there are; Labrador, German Shepherd, Golden Retriever, Doberman, Siberian Husky, Belgian Malinois, Great Dane, Dalmatian, Shih Tzu, Poodle, American Bully, Bulldogs, Beagle, Pembroke Welsh Corgi, Cocker Spaniel, Chihuahua, Jack Russell, Dachshund, Maltese, Chow Chow, Shar pei, Pug, Pomeranian, Japanese Spitz, French Bulldog, Rottweiler, Pitbull Terrier etc. To add to these breeds are a few crossbreeds of them like for example a Shih Tzu and Maltese Mix and a Dachshund Shih Tzu Mix.

As for my search online, I was able to buy one puppy, and, practically, adopted their sisters, because their Mother Dog died. And I got a free Shih Tzu Bulldog Mix. Being a pet owner is a responsibility. We do not want them ending up in dog pounds or shelters. Please be kind to animals.
