Makabayan backs Leni-Kiko tandem

Makabayan bloc has endorsed Vice President Leni Robredo and Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan as its bets for president and vice president in the 2022 national elections.

The progressive group’s senatorial bet Neri Colmenares made the announcement via a declaration of support, which highlighted that the Leni-Kiko tandem, supported by a broader united opposition, is the “best chance” against the specter of a Marcos presidency and of fighting tyranny.

“Sa panahong nananalasa ang mga puwersa ng tiraniya, at nais manumbalik ang mga tagapagmana ng diktador, sina Leni at Kiko ang tumindig bilang tunay na pwersang oposisyon. Kinakatawan nila ngayon ang pinakamahusay na tsansa natin para biguin ang tambalang Marcos-Duterte,” the declaration read.

Robredo’s and Pangilinan’s track records and their common stand on issues were also cited in the declaration as reasons for the endorsement. “Ang mga komon na tindig sa isyu, ang naging track record ng mga kandidato, at ang napakahalagang laban para biguin ang tambalang Marcos-Duterte ang naging batayan ng Makabayan para pormal na suportahan sina Leni Robredo at Kiko Pangilinan,” the progessive group said.

Opposition coalition 1Sambayan has also included Colmenares as the eighth senatorial aspirant under their ticket.
