May The Filipino People Win!

Due to the scheduled internet service interruption at our place in Naga City Subdivision imposed by DCTV I was not able to write my regular column last week. Anyway, this time interesting events are transpiring in the political landscape even at a time when the national and local elections in May 2022 are far off yet involving the PDP-LABAN which is perceived to be one of the strongest political parties in the country being an administration party. Some political analysts have expressed the view that the next general membership meeting of the party sometime this September may yet see the dismissal of Senator Manny Pacquiao as party president and some other party leaders identified with Senator Pacquiao. On the other hand, the Liberal Party and its leadership seem to be in the watchful eyes silently observing the events while at the same time preparing a possible line-up from President, Vice-President, Senatorial to Congressional candidates. In the meantime, Vice-President Lenny Robredo has consistently maintained her stance of not making a comment on whether or not she is running for the Presidency. In another development, President Rodrigo R. Duterte has been quoted to have said that she is not permitting her daughter Sara to run for President as he does not want her to experience the vagaries of the Presidency. As to whether or not he is himself running for Vice-President with Senator Bong Go as his running mate for President, he seems to be coy about the idea. Still, on VP Lenny Robredo, some political pundits have expressed the view that she would be a show-in if she runs for the Senate, Be that as it may, that’s how politics runs in our country and this writer could only wish them well and may the best men and women win! Better yet, may the Filipino people win!

Finally, the AITF has declared the entire Metro Manila under GCQ and has allowed even children from five years old up to go out in public provided they are accompanied by their parents/guardians. But the usual protocols of the use of mask and social distancing is still mandated. This is most welcome as we have been under quarantine for more than one year and it’s about time to see the “world”. In Naga which is still under MGCQ, the quarantine is due for lifting this coming July 24.
