MNCCI boosts food security with P20/kilo rice initiative

THE Metro Naga Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MNCCI) launched a landmark food security initiative, distributing subsidized rice at P20.00 per kilo to minimum-wage workers at Naga College Foundation (NCF).
Anchored on the theme: “Sa Camarines Sur, Benteng Bigas Meron Na!” (In Camarines Sur, Fortress Rice is Here!), this pioneering program targets rising living costs through public-private collaboration.
Hosted by One Media anchor Antonette Eduardo, the rollout ceremony at NCF-CRTD Hall, Lemon Residences featured key stakeholders:

1. Ms. Teena Castroverde (NCF VP for Administration) emphasized holistic welfare:
“Our commitment extends beyond education to tangible support for our workforce.”
2. Ms. Ma Ella E. Verano (DOLE Provincial Director) affirmed labor-sector alignment:
“This initiative protects worker dignity through accessible nutrition.”
3. Mr. Rodel P. Tornilla, MABE (DA Regional Director) highlighted sustainable partnerships:
“We ensure stable supply chains for future distributions.”
4. Ms. Ana-liza S. Macatangay (PIA Assistant Regional Director) pledged media amplification:
“This public-private model deserves nationwide recognition.”
Program Mechanics
• Facilitation: NFA Manager Ms. Marbin P. Malabanan released rice allocations from Food Terminal Inc.
• Beneficiaries: 330 NCF employees received 10 kilos each of premium well-milled rice.
• Pricing: Fixed at ₱20/kilo (75% below market rate).
• Scale: 3,300 kilos distributed in Phase 1, with monthly expansion to 10,000+ kilos planned.
DOLE Regional Director Imelda F. Gatinao announced: “This is just the beginning! We target province-wide adoption within three years.”
MNCCI & NCF President Mario C. Villanueva declared: “Starting with our own workforce, we affirm that affordable rice is a right—not charity.”
