MNCCI Holds 2nd Quarter General Assembly
By SecGen Pepe Rubio Jr.
Naga City --- To sustain the dynamism of the Metro Naga Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MNCCI) and for it to remain relevant to the on-going concerns of its members, it must faithfully keep its vital role of supporting and promoting the interests of the local business community. One way to realize this goal is through its regular forum – the quarterly general membership and business meeting. The basic role of the MNCCI is to provide a platform for businesses to network, share best practices, and advocate for their benefits. With the current strategic thrusts focused on institutional development; chamber growth management; and corporate social responsibility, the 2nd Quarter General Membership Meeting and Business Forum is slated on April 20, 2024 at Doña Dolores Convention Hall, Villa Caceres Hotel, Naga City. The theme of the conference is “Development and Innovation”. The theme emphasizes the prevailing experiences on local development, challenges and opportunities for technological innovations. The event is divided into two parts. Part 1 is confined to chamber management which puts premium on the general membership covering the induction of newly appointed members of the board and newly admitted members. Nominated candidates who are in good-standing in their membership are due for appointment to fill the three (3) vacant positions in the Board. These nominees are: Dr. Emelita Menes; General Joselito Pastrana; Ms. Mila Solis; Ms. Dessa Morico and Mr. Harry A. De Luna. Among the five nominees, only three will be appointed by the President to fill the three vacant positions, subject to the confirmation of the board, following the revised By-Laws of the Chamber as cited in Article IX, Section 4, which provides that: “In case of any vacancy in the Board, the President may appoint qualified member (s) in good standing subject to the confirmation of the Board. The new director shall serve the un-expired term.”
In Part 2, the Chamber conducts the business meeting, to be followed shortly by a business forum. On this part of the meeting, the honorable city mayor Nelson Legacion will deliver his welcome message and provide salient updates on the socio-economic development perspectives of the city and its changing landscape of investment opportunities and promotional activities.
Following the mayor’s updates is the keynote address of the General Manager of CASURECO 2 in the person of GM Engr. Edgardo Piamonte. On this occasion, the MNCCI is grateful for his generous acceptance of the invitation to be the main resource discussant to provide the most recent updates on electricity concession rates, pricing, generation capacities, consumer welfare and management policy challenges, especially on operations. After the talk, a business forum follows. This is the crucial part in the deliberations to address possible questions that the assembly may ask.
After the business forum, the MNCCI President, Engr. Mario C. Villanueva will render the President’s report for the quarter. Among the highlights of his 2nd Quarter report are the sequels of PCCI strategic plans for this year, the accomplishments within the short period and the forthcoming event related to Bicol Business Month activities.
This 2nd Quarter General Membership Meeting and Business Forum is made possible through the help of four major sponsors, which will likewise be inducted as new corporate members: REVLV- X represented by its CEO and President Mr. Ryan Labrador; FWD Insurance; GLAPPO and NCF AgriTech – both owned by Engr. Mario C. Villanueva; and other leading agency partners, such as the Department of Trade and Industry and City Government of Naga.
Towards the end of the assembly, the signing of Memorandum of Agreement between the MNCCI as represented by President Mario C. Villanueva and the Naga City People’s Council (NCPC) represented by the President Elmer Sto. Domingo will ensue to officially mark the joint efforts of the two bodies to engage in the formation of the 27 Barangay Business Clubs in the City of Naga.
