MNWD firms up water infra in Naga’s upland areas

THE Metropolitan Naga Water District (MNWD) is set to construct a new pumping station near the Nursery Road in Barangay Carolina, aiming to meet the growing water requirements of the soon-to-be-operational Naga City Convention Center.
The convention center is currently under construction and is expected to become a significant hub of activity in the city.
Showing its commitment to development, LGU Naga has agreed to lend a 500-square-meter lot for the pumping station. This arrangement is formalized through a memorandum of agreement and a deed of usufruct, allowing MNWD to use the city-owned land for the project.
Aside from serving the convention center, the new pumping station will provide water to the nearby economic zone and attract potential industries to the area.
MNWD General Manager Florencio Mongoso highlighted the importance of this development, emphasizing that his office is actively searching for additional water sources to meet the needs of the rapidly expanding subdivisions in the city’s upland barangays.
Currently, MNWD has identified potential sites for new pumping stations in Sitio Yabu, Carolina, and along the road leading to the economic zone. These locations are comparable in land area to the Pacol 5 pumping station, MNWD’s latest operational facility.
Each new station is expected to deliver 30 to 40 liters of water per second, significantly boosting local water supply.
Meanwhile, the pumping station near the Almeda highway is poised for operation, pending the issuance of a permit from the Local Water Utilities Administration (LWUA).
MNWD Assistant General Manager Roque Francisco is currently in Manila to expedite the permit process. Once operational, the Almeda station is anticipated to enhance water supply in Almeda, Barangay Mabolo, and Gainza town.
