The Provincial Government of Camarines Sur held a groundbreaking ceremony for the new Modern Public Market of Nabua on May 21, 2021 at Barangay Sto. Domingo. The Modern Public Market is one of the new projects of the provincial government for the residents and market vendors of Nabua. These efforts aims to provide a cleaner, more organized and convenient space for businesses and exchange of goods in the market.

“An sarong karahayan kaini ay bagong edipisyo, tapos ini mang satuyang mga vendors, matatawanan ta nin prayoridad ta sinda man giraray an matatawanan nin stall sa bagong modern public market,” shared Market Supervisor Martin Biloro Jr. who is in charge of overseeing the system in the market of Nabua.

He added, “Si mga natamaan man kan renovation, pig-tawanan mi man sinda nin relocation site kaya tuloy man giraray an negosyo ninda. Dakulang karahayan ining gigibuhun na modern public market ta panahaon na ding mapalitan an luma nin bago. Modern na ngani kaya mas malinig, mas magayon saka convenient sa mga tawo. Natatawanan na sinda nin tamang proseso sa pag-asikaso kan merkado.”

The ground breaking ceremony was personally attended by Governor Miguel Luis “Migz” Villafuerte. Fifth District Representative Sal Fortuno and Nabua Municipal Mayor Fernando Simbulan were also in attendance, along with Nabua-local Architect Jeffrey Luceña, who designed the Modern Public Market, and Market Supervisor Martin Biloro Jr.

Aside from being granted a modern public market, over 60 market vendors of Nabua also received cash assistance, face shields, and apron from the Provincial Government on the same day.

Fish vendor Ciony Embuestro, one of the market vendors who will benefit from this new infrastructure, “Maray man po na magkakaigwa na igdi nin magayon na edipisyo nin modernong public market nganing malinig saka maayos na igdi ta kadakol pong mga nakasarabit igdi tapos naapektuhan man kan bagyo. Dakulang tabang na po ini samong mga market vendors. Nagpapasalamat po ako ki Gov. Migz Villafuerte sa dakula niyang tabang na pagpagibu kaning market.”

“Maluya po an benta sa nguayan digdi samuya pero igwa pa man dawa papano. Mas okay na igwa dawa kadikit kaysa mayo.” He also added, as he talked about the current state of the market. Businesses in the market were also affected by the pandemic. There were losses in the sales of some commercial goods and basic commodities as the pandemic also limited the mobility of people, the transport of goods, and their resources to get by.

“Ining bagong building (public market) na gigibuhun, kadakol siyang ma-enganyar na parabakal. Kadakol na din malalaag na mga bakalon ngunyan dahil sa bagong building na ini. Dae na kaipuhan magpa-Iriga o Nabua para sa ibang bakalon ta pwede na ibagsak igdi. Kaya magayon po an arog kaining proyekto. Salamat po ki Gov. Migz tapos sa mga pag-iriba po para maayos po an samuyang market,” shared Annabel Soliman, a market vendor from Tupas, Nabua.

Last year, the Provincial Government also spearheaded the one-day repair of the Libmanan Public Market and the one-day repainting of the Public Market of Pili. This Modern Public Market in Nabua will mark the beginning of the modernization of public markets in the province that will be beneficial to both market vendors and constituents in Camarines Sur.
