Naga marks 9th JMR Day

By Jason B. Neola

Some 70 young individuals participated in the ‘Tsinelas Walk’ on Wednesday, Aug. 18, to commemorate the 9th death anniversary of Jesse M. Robredo, former mayor of Naga City and secretary of the Department of Interior and Local Government.

The trek, which kicked-off from the City Hall grounds at 6:30 AM, proceeded to the Eternal Gardens where the urn containing the remains or the ashes of the departed are being kept.

A separate group of some 300 bikers sped it up from the city’s Plaza Rizal to the same destination on the same day to support and participate in the events the LGU Naga has organized to mark the 9th JMR Day.

REMEMBERING JESSE Vice Mayor De Asis, Mayor Legacion, and Rep. Gabby Bordado visit tomb of the late DILG Secretary Jesse M. Robredo during the commemoration of the latter’s death.

Done with the celebration of a memorial mass and wreath-laying ceremony, the commemoration was highlighted by the messages of Rep. Gabby Bordado of Camarines Sur’s 3rd district, Butch Robredo, Jesse’s brother, and Mayor Nelson Legacion, and Vice Mayor Cecilia de Asis.

Vice President Leni Robredo, in a canned video message, encouraged the city officials and those who were given the opportunity to serve the Nagueño to “always find in their hearts the strength to perpetuate the participatory style of leadership and governance that Jesse had been espousing for.”

Robredo did not make during the commemoration activity due to the implementation of enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) in Manila.

On his part, Jose “Butch” Robredo thanked the city officials for conducting every year the JMR Day. He lauded them for keeping the core values of good governance in running the affairs of the city government.

Also in attendance were officers and members of the Naga City Urban Poor Federation, Inc. led by its president, Danilo Ludovice.
