By Jason B. Neola

The Metro Naga Public Employment Service Office (Metro PESO) of the Naga City government is now releasing application forms to those who wish to have summer jobs under the auspices of the city’s Special Program for Employment of Students (SPES) and Summer Employment for Enrolment (SEFE).

Metro PESO head Florencio Mongoso Jr. said SPES and SEFE are programs that aim to extend educational assistance to persons from 18 to 30 years old by providing them jobs at the various offices of the city government this summer.

“The Metro PESO encourages deserving individuals to avail the educational assistance offered under both programs, which can be obtained thru provisional employment at any of our City Hall offices,” Mongoso said.

The programs are open to incoming Grade 12, incoming 1st year college, college level and Tech-Voc students, out of school youth (OSY), and the dependents of displaced or to be displaced workers. PWDs are also highly encouraged to apply.

Based on the implementing guidelines, SPES, which is being implemented in partnership with the Department of Labor and Employment, has a budget allocation of P1.5 million (wages only) for this year’s 240 beneficiaries while the city government’s SEFE is allocated with P3 million (wages and insurance) for 470 beneficiaries.

Each beneficiary under both programs has 20-day work requirement to perform (from 8:00 AM-5:00 PM) with a rate per day of P519.63 (SPES) and P310 (SEFE).

Applicants for these programs should have:

1). An average grade of 85 percent and above during the previous school year/semester. For OSY, the average grade requirement shall be based on what he/she achieved during the last school year or semester attended;

2). Combined family net income after tax should not exceed the latest annual regional poverty threshold of P146,766 for a family of 6 as determined by the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA).

3).The applicant must not be enjoying any scholarship or financial assistance exceeding P5,000 from the LGU or any other institution.

Last year, there were 167 SPES and 300 for SEFE beneficiaries.
