THE Naga City Dangerous Drugs Board (NCDDB) has been recognized as a High Functional Local Anti-Drug Abuse Council in the 2024 Anti-Drug Abuse Council (ADAC) Performance Audit and Awards, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) said.

The distinction highlights Naga City’s steadfast commitment to combating illegal drugs through effective enforcement, rehabilitation programs, and community involvement.

The DILG announced the results, identifying NCCDB as one of the 75 high-performing Local Anti-Drug Abuse Council in the Bicol Region.

In an interview, NCDDB Secretary Paulo Baruzo shared the specific criteria that contributed to Naga City’s achievement.

“There are indicators to pass that requirement. One of them is that the City Anti-Drug Abuse Council (CADAC) should be organized, and the members of CADAC should be updated. Also, we need to have regular meetings. There are also indicators related to community-based rehabilitation programs (CBDRP).” Baruzo explained.

He further highlighted that the city has made significant action in its fight against illegal drugs such as Barangay Drug Clearing Program, CBDRP, partnerships such as a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with Universidad de Sta. Isabel (USI), and conducts drug awareness campaigns in schools and barangays.

NCDDB aims to expand its initiatives, including strengthening the Drug-Free Workplace Program, conducting more drug tests in government and private institutions, and further institutionalizing the Barkada Kontra Droga (BKD) program in schools.

For Naga City, this award is not just recognition—it is a motivation to further intensify its anti-drug efforts. Jose B. Importante, administrative officer of NCCDB emphasized that the city will continue to strengthen its programs and expand its reach.

“We will continue to maintain and improve the programs we conduct. This reward will serve as our motivation to work harder, especially in fighting against substance abuse.” he stated.

The award from the 2024 ADAC Performance Audit underscores Naga City’s commitment to a drug-free future, proving that local efforts can lead to real and lasting change in the fight against illegal drugs.
