The barangay council of Concepcion Pequeña in Naga City believes an old grudge was the motive behind a stabbing incident along St. Claire Street that led to the instantaneous death of a teenager.
On Easter Tuesday, April 22, at around 12:00 noon, the victim—identified as Justin, 18, a resident of the area—was walking along the street when he was approached by three teenagers: a 16-year-old, a 15-year-old, and a 14-year-old, according to police reports.
The encounter escalated into a heated argument and physical altercation. One of the minors reportedly pulled out a knife and stabbed Justin in the chest, resulting in his immediate death.
Police launched a hot pursuit operation shortly after the incident and were able to apprehend the three minors. They are currently undergoing assessment by the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) to determine whether they acted with discernment at the time of the crime.
Barangay Captain Francis Mendoza confirmed that the victim and the suspects were related by blood. However, the root cause of the conflict remains unclear.
Meanwhile, PSSG Roberto Aguillon, in a separate interview, said the 15-year-old suspect will face homicide charges if proven to have acted with discernment.
Aguillon explained that under Philippine law, minors aged 15 and above may face criminal charges depending on the nature of the offense and the results of the social welfare assessment. Those under 15, such as the 14-year-old involved in the assault, are exempt from criminal liability but may still be held civilly liable. This means the youngest suspect could be required to shoulder funeral and other related expenses incurred by the victim’s family.
