LEGAZPI CITY --- The Naval Forces Southern Luzon (NAVFORSOL) launched its humanitarian mission dubbed “Bayanihan Mula sa Karagatan” in Barangay Banocboc, Calaguas Island, Camarines Norte, as part of the 127th founding anniversary celebration of the Philippine Navy.
The initiative aimed to deliver food supplies, mobility aids, and nutrition support to malnourished children and other residents in geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas (GIDAs) of the island.
“With the spirit of unity and compassion, the event showcased the Navy’s unwavering commitment to serving the Filipino people—especially those in geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas,” NAVFORSOL said in a statement. “The activity was marked by the seamless repacking, loading aboard BRP AGTA (LC-290), and unloading of essential goods and equipment, made possible through the collective efforts of NAVFORSOL personnel and local residents, embodying the true essence of bayanihan.”
Among the aid distributed were 870 food packs, 10 wheelchairs, 40 walking canes for persons with special needs, 68 boxes of MannaPack rice, 70 Lotte bags, slippers for undernourished children, water search and rescue (WASAR) equipment for local responders, sports equipment, and 30 trash bins. Beneficiaries included residents of Barangay Banocboc as well as selected individuals from the villages of Mangcawayan and Pinagtigasan.
The event also featured the ground-breaking ceremony for the upcoming Calaguas public restroom project—an initiative aimed at improving sanitation and promoting public health in the coastal community.
NAVFORSOL was joined by various stakeholders and partner organizations in bringing aid and services to the people of Calaguas Island.
“This successful mission exemplifies the Philippine Navy’s enduring resolve—not only in defending the country’s maritime domain—but in delivering sustainable, inclusive, and responsive public service to our fellow Filipinos,” NAVFORSOL added.
