LEGAZPI CITY --- The Philippine Navy delivered essential relief and construction materials to Masbate province over the weekend, assisting communities severely affected by Severe Tropical Storm Opong.
In a report on Monday, Commodore Salvador Lavapie, Commander of Naval Forces Southern Luzon (NAVFORSOL), said the Philippine Navy’s BRP AGTA (LC290) transported and unloaded the materials as part of its Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Response (HADR) mission.

The BRP AGTA was loaded with 44.66 tons of vital construction materials from Ouano Wharf in Mandaue City, Cebu, aimed at supporting the ongoing rehabilitation and rebuilding efforts in Masbate. The operation was carried out in close coordination with the Tanging Yaman Foundation.
“The successful execution of this mission reflects our continued commitment to assist our fellow Filipinos during times of need,” Lavapie said.
He added that the delivery highlights the Philippine Navy’s critical role not only in national defense but also in humanitarian assistance, especially as natural calamities become increasingly frequent. (PNA)
