LEGAZPI CITY --- Albay Governor Noel Rosal, the newly appointed chairperson of the Regional Development Council in Bicol, will focus on infrastructure and connectivity projects to boost Bicol’s economic growth during his three-year term.

Recently appointed by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. to the RDC position, Rosal identified 30 flagship projects, including upgrading the Bicol International Airport, improving major seaports like Matnog and Pantao, and enhancing railway systems.

Rosal said the projects will boost connectivity with the Visayas and Mindanao regions and positively impact the local economy.

"I believe this will address our reputation as the poorest region. With improved connectivity to Visayas and Mindanao, our goods will circulate more easily within Bicol," he said in an interview on Monday.

To ensure a smooth transition from planning to implementation, Rosal underscored the importance of proper coordination among local chief executives and government agencies.

"We need the cooperation of local chief executives, and I am requesting that. It’s crucial for government agencies to engage in coordination meetings so that we can implement meaningful programs that truly address our needs," he added.

Rosal said susceptibility to typhoons should not hinder development projects in the area.

The new RDC chair also called for a meeting of sectoral committees to further identify the pressing needs of Bicolanos.

He highlighted the urgent need to address power supply and water resource issues across the region, which remain significant challenges.

"These are critical issues that we must prepare for, regardless of where we are in Bicol," he added.

Rosal assured all government stakeholders that their suggestions would be considered, underscoring a commitment to inclusivity.

"All the programs you submit will be reviewed, and we will prioritize them accordingly," he added. (With a report from John Kenneth Aringo/PNA)
