New Bulusan Lake Tourism Center now open to public

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in Bicol has completed the construction of a 1,002.5-square meter tourism center to further promote the ecotourism in the town of Bulusan – home of Mount Bulusan – in Sorsogon Province.

DPWH Regional Office 5 Director Virgilio C. Eduarte in a report to Secretary Roger G. Mercado, said that the project with an allocation of P60 million has been opened and formally-turned over to the local government of Bulusan so it can contribute to the booming tourism industry in the province.

“Multipurpose facilities were built near Bulusan Lake consisting of a food bar or dining area with comfort rooms and ramps, waiting shed, souvenir shop, ticket booth and queue sheds, and the main feature of upper view deck overlooking the lake,” Eduarte said.

The project also covers drainage, slope protection structures, and a sidewalk to ensure safety and convenience of tourists within the facility being built on highlands. It is supported with a road network and parking area.

“This facility will be able to cater to tourists, as the province of Sorsogon further promotes this destination in Bulusan, dubbed as the “Switzerland of the Orient”,” Eduarte added.
