NTC, DICT to facilitate on-site registration roll out

By Cyryl L. Montales

LEGAZPI CITY---The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) and the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Bicol rendered on-site registration roll out at Brgy. Paulba covered court, Ligao City, Albay on Jan. 26, Thursday.

‘’It is provided under the implementing rules that the NTC together with DICT and other agencies, will facilitate the SIM card registration on-site particularly in remote areas in order to help those who are encountering difficulties in registering their SIM cards,’’NTC Bicol OIC, Regional Director Engr. Samuel S. Sabile said.

According to Sabile, they are expecting three (3) batches or 1,500 registrants to avail the services in the said activity.

‘’It is possible to accommodate at least 1,500 registrants because they can register at the same time, so long as they have scanned the bar-code (QR code),’’Sabile said.

He noted that the registration process will only take two to three minutes to complete.

Sabile stressed that they have selected Ligao for the first pilot testing of on-site sim card registration due to its ‘’accessibility’’ calling it as the ‘’strategic location’’ that is near to other towns such as Oas, Camalig and Guinubatan with good internet connection.

‘’After Ligao, the next on-site registration will be undertaken at Bacacay, Pilar Sorsogon, Camarines Sur, Camarines Norte, Catanduanes and Masbate,’’ Sabile said.

Sabile added that those who are not ‘techy’ or greatly exposed in technology will be assisted by NTC personnel.

‘’Registrants should input their information personally. The telco personnel will only guide them,’’Sabile said.

The required personal information include their full name, sex, birthday, address, and government issued ID with picture.

‘’They need to present a government issued ID with picture to verify that the identity of the individual is legitimate. Police clearance, Brgy. Certificate or certificate of residence with picture will be accepted,‘’NTC Bicol Atty. III Judy Ann N. Bilangel said.

Consequently, Sabile said that on-site registration can only be conducted in the areas with good signal status.

‘’It is not possible to process the registration without an internet connection,’’Sabile said.

Most part of the Bicol region consist of mountainous area which obstructs the signal Sabile noted, that is why registrants may proceed to selected areas with ongoing on-site registration nearest to them. (PIA5/Albay)
