AS early as 4:00 a.m. on May 2, the Balatas Development Complex came alive with steady footsteps and quiet determination as participants gathered for the Oragon Run 2026 Half Marathon, a community-driven event supporting Street Paws Naga and the community service initiatives of APO Oragon.

Under the leadership of Race Director Oca Borja, Jr. and the APO Oragon Metro Naga Alumni Association, headed by its President Atty. Her Lynn Balares, the event brought together competitive runners, casual joggers, and advocates alike—united by a shared purpose that extended well beyond the finish line.

While the on-ground race set the pace in Naga City, organizers ensured that participation would not be limited by distance. A virtual race component allows runners to complete 5KM, 10KM, or 21KM routes anywhere between April 15 and May 15, using fitness trackers to log their progress. Whether on a familiar neighborhood street or a treadmill at home, each run contributes to the same cause—proof that meaningful participation can take many forms.

For virtual participants, finisher shirts and medals will be delivered directly to their registered addresses, with local shipping provided at no cost—ensuring that even those who ran from afar receive a tangible reminder of their contribution.

The event also emphasizes inclusivity through its age-category recognition, offering participants a fair chance to be acknowledged within their respective brackets. It is a format that quietly encourages more people to join, without the pressure of competing against seasoned athletes. For those aiming higher, cash prizes await the top finishers across all race categories.

Race Director Oca Borja, Jr. said he hopes runners remember the event as more than a race, with each step helping stray animals, adding that feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, with many calling it a meaningful run.

At its core, Oragon Run 2026 is a study in how grassroots initiatives can scale impact: align a clear cause, lower barriers to entry, and give people both a reason and a way to show up. The result is an event where mileage translates directly into meaning. Because in this race, the real finish line isn’t marked by tape—it’s measured by the lives helped along the way.

The APO Oragon Metro Naga Alumni Association, led by its President Atty. Her Lynn Balares, said the Oragon Run, launched in 2024, was designed not only to promote the sport but also to advance advocacies such as animal welfare, while serving as a key fundraising platform for the group’s year-round community service projects. She noted that organizing a half marathon came with significant logistical demands, particularly in ensuring the safety and welfare of runners throughout the course, and credited the strong bayanihan spirit among APO members, partner organizations, and government agencies for making the event possible. She added that APO Oragon intends to sustain and expand its service initiatives, encouraging the community to remain actively involved in supporting its causes.

Race Director Oca Borja, Jr., for his part, said the virtual race component was met with encouraging participation, demonstrating that support for the advocacy can extend beyond physical presence. He expressed hope that runners would carry the experience beyond race day, noting that each step taken contributed to tangible support for stray animals, while early feedback described the event as both meaningful and rewarding.
