By Cyryl L. Montales

LEGAZPI CITY --- Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) Bicol announced that the Education for Development Scholarship Program (EDSP) is already accepting applicants from among the dependents of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) beginning January 9 to 31, this year.

EDSP scholars will receive P60,000 per academic year or P30,000 per semester until their graduation.

“OWWA offers EDSP to OFW dependents, [but] for now the application is only open for incoming college students,” OWWA Bicol Labor Communication Officer Ma. Via Dometita stated.

OFW dependents are the relatives of OFW active OWWA members.

Qualified applicants must be a child, or sibling of a single/married but childless active OWWA member. He or she should not be more than 21 years old upon application, a grade 12 graduating student, with GWA of at least 80%, no failing grades and willing to enroll in Philippine-based colleges/universities.

“As of Jan. 13, 2023 we have 112 applicants from the Bicol region,” Dometita stated.

According to Dometita the examination of applicants will be conducted by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) seeking the top 400 scholars nationwide.

“Last year, we had 31 EDSP scholars,” Dometita added.

EDSP application process and requirements

For interested applicants, the proof of grades will be the only requirement.

“Their grades should reflect their grades 9, 10, 11, and 1st semester of grade 12, as much as possible all of that should be attached to be evaluated,” Dometita added.

The application can be done online by clicking this link; Applicants will just have to wait for the confirmation of their status via text or email.

“We are encouraging all of the OWWA active OFW member dependents to apply prior to the deadline for early evaluation,” Dometita emphasized. (PIA5/Albay)
