The Camaligan local government unit (LGU) will operate soon its garbage recycling facility in Sitio Tampac, Barangay Sua, lauded by town officials as “the first hi-tech trash recovery establishment in the province.”

Mayor Marilou Marquez-Hirose told Bicol Mail that the LGU has allotted some P15 million for the construction of the new facility.

Hirose said the entire province will be surprised once the facility becomes operational, while town residents will be happy for having the facility.

She, however, declined to reveal the date of the opening of the garbage facility.

The LGU used its own fund to finance the construction of the facility. “I don’t want to borrow money for it because it will be a burden for the next mayor,” Hirose said.

Meanwhile, councilor Nat Capucao, head of the finance and appropriations committee of the Sangguniang Bayan, said that the facility’s initial operation will be experimental.

“Once the facility attracted the interest of the public, other towns will build the same infrastructure” he said.

Capucao, said the facility is built in a 1,000 square meter lot. He added that the hi-tech recycling machines will come from the province of Cebu.

Before the establishment of the town’s dumpsite in 2013, some Camaligan residents used to smuggle their garbage in Naga City particularly in Barangay Abella, which is located in the boundary of the town.
