Pa arrested after attack on daughter

MINALABAC, Camarines Sur --- A 49-year-old man was arrested Tuesday afternoon after he allegedly attempted to attack his own daughter with a digging bar in Barangay Sagrada Familia, Minalabac, police said.

Police identified the suspect only by the alias “Jim,” a widower and jobless resident of Minalabac. He is now under police custody and is facing an attempted parricide complaint.

The victim, identified only as “Ange,” 21, a college student, escaped unharmed during the incident.

According to the Minalabac Municipal Police Station (MPS), the incident occurred at around 2:30 p.m. on July 14 after police received a call from a concerned citizen requesting immediate assistance.

Investigation showed that the victim was washing dishes in their kitchen when her father suddenly approached carrying a digging bar, locally known as a “tuki,” and allegedly attempted to attack her. The victim managed to evade the assault and ran inside their house for safety.

Responding police officers arrested the suspect after he was positively identified by the victim.

Authorities informed the suspect of his constitutional rights before bringing him to the Minalabac MPS together with the recovered 32-inch digging bar, which has been placed under police custody as evidence.

Investigators are preparing a criminal complaint for attempted parricide for filing before the Prosecutor’s Office.

Meanwhile, police recover seven abandoned marijuana plants in Bula town. The suspected marijuana plants were abandoned in Barangay San Isidro, Bula, on Tuesday afternoon. The police immediately conducted an investigation to identify the person responsible for cultivating them.

The Bula Municipal Police Station said the operation stemmed from a report made by Barangay Captain Rico Javier y Antonio, who informed authorities about the presence of suspected marijuana plants along the barangay road in Zone 2A at around 5:30 p.m. on July 14.

Upon arriving at the area, police were shown seven suspected marijuana plants that had been placed on the roof of a barangay-owned irrigation water pump.

Authorities interviewed nearby residents, but no one claimed ownership of or knowledge about the plants.

The suspected marijuana plants were seized and brought to the Bula MPS for proper disposition, while investigators continue efforts to identify and locate the individual responsible for planting or maintaining them.
