The Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) on Thursday donated P25.1 million worth of medical equipment to the Naga City General Hospital (NCGH) to enhance its diagnostic services.

This donation was made under the PCSO’s Medical Equipment Donation Program, with PCSO General Manager Melquiades Robles and Naga City Mayor Leni Robredo signing the Deeds of Donation.

The donated equipment includes a digital stationary X-ray machine, an ultrasound machine, and a 2D echocardiogram machine.

The digital X-ray machine will provide clearer images to assist in diagnosing injuries and illnesses, while the ultrasound machine will support the assessment and early detection of medical conditions.

The 2D echocardiogram machine will be used to examine the structure and function of the heart and to detect and monitor cardiovascular conditions.

Robles said the donated equipment would benefit patients in Naga and other parts of Camarines Sur, given the city’s central location in the province.

“These pieces of equipment will serve Filipinos, especially those who are ill,” Robles said in Filipino.

Robredo thanked the PCSO for the generous donation, noting that the equipment would enable the hospital to respond more quickly to patients in need of diagnostic services.

“The donation of this equipment is a huge help because we can respond quickly and accommodate more patients who need these services,” Robredo said, speaking in Filipino.

She added that the equipment could help reduce patients’ waiting times for diagnostic procedures, providing families with greater peace of mind.

Additionally, Robredo requested the PCSO’s support in providing the necessary medical equipment to open NCGH’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU), which has been non-operational since 2023 due to a lack of facilities.

“I’m sure that the PCSO will help us because, based on our experience, they provide assistance whenever they see the need,” Robredo said.

Robredo expressed hopes of opening the ICU within the year, noting that it would not only benefit Naga residents but also help ease congestion at the Bicol Medical Center’s ICU, especially amid a reported rise in dengue cases in the city.

“We are dedicated to making this happen because, as you’ve heard, the hospital is overwhelmed, particularly with the current dengue outbreak,” Robles added.

He assured that the PCSO would act as quickly as possible to extend assistance to Naga City. (Nicole Frilles contributed to this report/Camarines Sur/PIA Bicol)
