Phivolcs starts VolcanoPH app

By Mavic Conde

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) has launched on Tuesday, June 22 an online application that will provide a real-time 24/7 volcano advisories for Filipinos and foreigners across the world.

Called VolcanoPH Info, this monitoring app will provide real-time, easy-to-understand volcano advisories via abridged and visually appealing information. This will “help the users understand the current volcano status, and more importantly, identify the necessary preparedness and response actions for their safety,” according to Phivolcs.

Users can see information about the latest volcanic activity and their alert levels, as well as the number of volcanic earthquakes monitored (seismicity), acidity level and temperature of the main crater lake, among others.

There will also be a 24-hour summary on volcanic status and safety recommendations (available in Filipino language) for people and other potential dangers associated to the volcanic activity -- from ground deformation and the sinking or swelling of the ground. The app is currently available on Android and may be available on iOS devices in the future.
