PLDT crew rescues 2 owlets in Iriga City

Two young Philippine Scops Owls (Otus megalotis) were recently turned over to the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) in Iriga City by the PLDT Telecommunications Company.


According to Rex Lepiten, a member of a PLDT crew, said that while they were conducting a maintenance operation and replacement of dilapidated wooden poles damaged by the past typhoons, they saw and found the two owlets inside the hole of a rotten post.

They immediately rescued the owlets and turned over them to the CENRO.


Upon inspection by the CENRO Iriga staff, one owlet weighs 190 grams and has a wingspan of 60 centimeters (cm) while the other weighs 130 grams and has a wingspan of 54 cm. Both owlets in good condition and are now under the care of the CENRO. (DENR Bicol)
