PNP chief to PRO-5: ‘Look after your spiritual well-being’

By Connie Calipay

LEGAZPI CITY --- Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil on Tuesday urged police officers to look after their spiritual well-being while performing their duties, even as the regional police received assistance from the local government.

“Ang mga tao natin, they need nourishment sa Simbahan. Pag may problema ako, I always go to church, although hindi agad ang sagot, magaan sa pakiramdam (Our people, they need nourishment in the church. When I have a problem, I always go to church, although the answer is not immediate, I feel relieved),” Marbil said in an interview during his visit to Camp BGen. Simeon A. Ola, Legazpi City.

He also urged police personnel to be closer to God. “There is a God you can rely on. No matter what you ask for or [how much you] sin, God will not abandon you,” he added.

Marbil led the inauguration and consecration of the newly constructed Sto. Niño Chapel inside the police camp.

He also received 17 patrol cars, one Toyota Hilux, and four K9 English Cocker Spaniel narcotics dogs donated by Sorsogon Governor Edwin Hamor to the Sorsogon Provincial Police Office (PPO).

Each of the 15 municipal police stations (MPS) will receive one of the 17 Toyota Vios patrol cars, while the Bulan MPS and Sorsogon City Police Station will each receive the remaining two Toyota Vios cars, while the Sorsogon PPO will get the Toyota Hilux.

Along with the K9 units, the Sorsogon PPO will also get training for the PNP’s K9 handlers worth PHP2 million to support the PNP’s anti-drug campaign in the province.

Hamor said in his speech that the provincial government will continue to assist the Police Regional Office Bicol (PRO-5) in maintaining peace and order.

The PRO-5 also received 50 units of 5.56mm basic assault rifle (BAR) “Galil” from the PNP Logistics to enhance the unit’s firepower capability.

The firearms, along with accessories, will be distributed to various police stations in the region.

Marbil also recognized individuals for their unwavering support after donating lots that will be used to expand PNP infrastructure.

He also delivered his directives and reminders to the personnel of the PRO-5 during the traditional talk to personnel. (PNA)
