LEGAZPI CITY, Albay --- The Philippine National Police attributes the peace and order situation in the Bicol region to its 5-minute response time, says Police Regional Office 5 Public Information Officer Malu Calubaquib on Thursday.
“The stronger and more efficient implementation of the 5-minute response time leads to the resolution of crimes becoming faster, and it becomes easier to track down and apprehend the suspect. Through this, justice can be promptly delivered,” she said.
Calubaquib added that the 5-minute response policy through 911 calls, which the PNP launched in June, has enhanced the police’s response mechanisms. “Hindi na nabigyan pa ng pagkakataon ang suspek na tumakbo o tumakas. Kung meron biktima, ay madaling maagapan at madala sa hospital,” she said.
Under the administration of PRO 5 Regional Director PBGEN Nestor Babagay, Jr., a drop of 346 crimes from 16,602 in January to September of 2024, to 16,256 in the same period this year, was recorded.
The eight focus crimes in the region decreased by 14 percent from 2,025 to 1,737 during the given period.
Calubaquib said that PBGEN Babagay makes regular community engagement to promote and advocate the use of 911 calls among residents whenever crises and emergencies arise
“My message was clear: your safety is our priority. I reiterated the PNP’s commitment to swift and efficient service through our 911 emergency hotline and our standard 5-minute response time within urban centers.
This commitment, however, requires a partnership. Your vigilance and cooperation are crucial,” Babagay said.
The PRO5 will continue the institutionalization of the 5-minute response time through the regular schedule of communication exercises and drills, Calubaquib said. (PIA5)
